Ropesville in brief
Ropesville sits in the southeastern corner of Hockley County, where US 62/82 runs 21 miles northeast to Lubbock and 18 miles southwest to Brownfield. It was established in 1917. In 1935, during the Dust Bowl, the federal Resettlement Administration carved land here into 33 farms of about 130 acres each as an experimental project. The town had 430 residents in 2020, and Ropes ISD serves the area.
Working slabs on farm property
- Shop and equipment-shed floors sized for tractors and trucks. See concrete slabs.
- Aprons where loaded trucks turn, usually thicker than a house driveway.
- Footings for carports and pole buildings. See footings and foundations.
- Driveways, walks and patios at farmhouses and in town.
Large slabs spread the cost of the crew and trucks over more square feet, so per-foot prices tend to fall as size rises. The slab cost estimator walks through yards and national ranges.
Dust, wind and curing
Ropesville's history is tied to the Dust Bowl, and wind still defines pour days on the open plains between Lubbock and Brownfield. Hot, dry wind pulls moisture from fresh concrete quickly, which can leave a weak, dusty surface. Ask contractors what they use to slow evaporation, how soon they apply curing compound or covers, and whether they will reschedule on a high-wind day.
Permits
Ropesville is in Hockley County. We did not research the town's or Hockley County's permit rules; call city hall for work inside town and the county about driveways or culverts on county roads. Access onto US 62/82 is TxDOT right-of-way.
