A fast-growing suburb
Wolfforth grew from 3,670 residents in 2010 to 5,521 in the 2020 census, a 50.4 percent jump, as Lubbock's growth pushed southwest. Much of that is new subdivision housing inside the Frenship ISD footprint, which has four of its fourteen schools in Wolfforth. Newer homes mean a particular mix of concrete work: extending builder patios, widening driveways for a third vehicle, pouring side-yard walks, and adding pads for storage buildings and backyard shops.
The town began in 1916 as a stop on the Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway and is named for George and Charlotte Wolfforth. US 62/82, the Marsha Sharp Freeway, forms part of the city boundary, and FM 179 (Dowden Road) is the main north-south road through town.
Wolfforth permit rules for concrete
- Sidewalks and driveways. City code says no one may build, rebuild, repair or replace sidewalks or driveways without a construction permit from the city engineer or a designee. That is stricter than Lubbock's exemption for private flatwork inside your lot, so ask the city whether your specific job needs one.
- Standards. Sidewalks, curbs, driveways and gutters must follow the Lubbock Minimum Design Standards and Specifications as amended by Wolfforth.
- Application. The permit application names the owner, the party doing the work, the location and plans of the construction.
- Where. Building permits are handled at Wolfforth City Hall, 302 Main Street, (806) 855-4134.
Ask any contractor you hire who will apply for the permit, and get that in the written scope.
Ground and drainage
Wolfforth sits at about 3,317 feet on the same nearly level plain as Lubbock, with deep loamy soils and caliche below. New subdivisions are graded to move water to streets and detention, and a patio or driveway extension can quietly reverse that if it is not sloped away from the house. Ask the contractor to check the lot's drainage pattern before forming, especially on additions that butt against an existing slab.
Common Wolfforth jobs
- Driveway widening and parking pads beside the garage.
- Patio extensions off small builder slabs, often with a cover.
- Slabs for storage buildings, shops and RV parking on larger lots.
- Sidewalk and approach work under a city permit.
How the referral works
Send a request through the contact page with your street, the job and a rough size. We pass it to an independent concrete contractor who works in Wolfforth. They visit, quote in writing and, if you hire them, you pay them directly. Ask for proof of liability insurance before you sign.
