Tahoka in brief
Tahoka is the county seat of Lynn County, home to the Lynn County Courthouse and the Pioneer Museum. It takes its name from nearby Tahoka Lake, a natural spring-fed lake whose Indian name is translated as "fresh or clear water." The town covers about 2.39 square miles at roughly 3,081 feet and had 2,375 residents in 2020. Its climate is semiarid, the same as the rest of the South Plains.
Jobs in an established town
- Replacing settled front walks and steps at older homes.
- Driveway replacement where old slabs have broken into pieces.
- New patios and covered slabs.
- Shop, barn and equipment slabs on farm property outside town.
Older flatwork sometimes turns out to be thin or poured without a base. Ask contractors to price removal down to firm ground if they see signs of it.
Who to call about permits
Tahoka is in Lynn County, so Lubbock County's rules do not apply. We did not research the City of Tahoka's or Lynn County's permit requirements. Inside city limits, check with city hall before work at the street or on a new structure. Outside town, ask Lynn County about culverts or driveways in county road right-of-way, and TxDOT about any new access onto a state highway.
Distance and scheduling
Tahoka sits well south of Lubbock, so travel and ready-mix delivery are part of the cost on small jobs. Grouping a walk, steps and a driveway into a single pour day lowers the per-square-foot price. Ask each bidder where their concrete comes from and whether delivery distance affects their schedule.
